Concern for Billy Ray Cyrus

The family of Billy Ray Cyrus, father of singers Miley, Trace, and Noah Cyrus, is concerned for his well-being after Billy Ray made a strange appearance at the Liberty Ball.

Weird Liberty Ball performance

The event was part of President Donald Trump's inaugural festivities on January 20. The singer went on stage for an impressive audience but had technical difficulties that escalated into an awkward performance.

Trace Cyrus' letter

Trace, Miley Cyrus' older brother and adopted son of Billy Ray, wrote a letter to his father, who he "barely recognizes now".

'Barely recognize you'

"I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like, I barely recognize now," he wrote on his Instagram account.

A world that has 'beaten down' his father

In the post, Trace shared a photo of his father. "It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you," wrote the Metro Station vocalist.

Miley and her siblings have been worried

In his post, Trace appears to be referring to his sisters Brandi, Miley, and Noah, according to People magazine. "Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away," he explained.

His youngest daughter still idolizes him

Trace also made this claim on behalf of his younger sister, Noah. The singer said Noah desperately wanted her father to be a part of her life, but Billy Ray wasn't there for her. "That's your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow just like me she still idolizes you though," he added.

'Everyone is noticing it'

Trace also hoped his father would realize he is sick. "You're not healthy dad and everyone is noticing it," he said.

'Fear that the world may lose you far too soon'

Finally, the 35-year-old singer told his father that he would like to help him. Trace explained that he has been sober for over a year and that he feels fine. "I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon."

A strange show

The letter came after Billy Ray Cyrus gave a somewhat awkward performance at the Liberty Ball on January 20.

Minutes of discomfort

Billy Ray played 'Old Town Road' with little clarity. Then, he started to sing 'Achy Breaky Heart', but his guitar was muted and there was no background music.

Despite the more than 10 minutes of awkwardness, the singer defended himself via Instagram: "You just had to be there," he said in a post.

Didn't matter whether equipment worked; it was an honor

In addition to this post, Cyrus issued a statement to People magazine. "I wouldn't have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar, and monitors worked or not. I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me," she said.
