Hunter Schafer had to renew her passport...

In early 2024, Hunter Schafer lost her passport on a trip to Barcelona. To be able to move around, she was issued a temporary one that she had to renew in a year. And so she did.

...and it said she was a man

After the relevant paperwork, the 26-year-old actress received her new passport, but she did not expect to receive one of the most unpleasant and disappointing surprises of her life: the gender box says she is a man.

Trump Administration policy

One of the first measures taken by the President of the United States was to use the gender assigned at birth to determine the gender markers on newly issued passports.

Making reality visible

Hunter Schafer is one of the most influential transgender women in the world. She immediately shared her experience and pain in a long video on TikTok so that everyone could see what transgender people go through.

"I had a bit of a harsh reality check today and felt like it's important to share with whoever is listening," she starts her video.

Years identified as a woman

The actress directly accuses Donald Trump of her predicament. She had been recognized as a woman in official documents for years, and now all of a sudden her gender was being denied. Being identified as a man was a devastating blow for her.

She filled out the forms correctly

In case anyone is wondering, the star of 'Euphoria' emphasizes that she checked the box for 'female' in the passport application form. She denied having been confused and marking the wrong box.

She does not want pity but to show reality

For eight minutes, Hunter Schafer made it clear that he was not seeking help or comfort but that she simply wanted to tell the truth about what was happening. The presidential executive orders and policies are not abstract. They have real consequences for real people.

'It scares me'

"I think it's a direct result of the administration that our country is operating under. And I guess it scares me, the way these things are being implemented piecemeal," she said on TikTok.

'Trans people will never stop being trans'

"Trans people are beautiful. We will never stop existing. I will never stop being trans. A letter and a passport cannot change that. And f_ this administration," she added.

Message for Donald Trump

As a final flourish, Hunter Schafer used a series of expletives about sending the Trump Administration far away or wishing something to the President of the United States. Her story shows that no one is above the new rules and that it is painful to be confronted with them.
