Paul McCartney, 80 years old

Singer, songwriter, musician, author, record, and film producer Paul McCartney came into the world on June 18th, 1942. This iconic musician has a respectable age but is still going strong! Join us as we look at how Sir James Paul McCartney has changed over the years!

Mid 1940s

A family photo of Paul and his parents in the mid to late 1940s. McCartney grew up in the Liverpool area. His mother was a midwife and his father a musician.

1962

A portrait of the singer-songwriter taken in 1962, the same year the hit single 'Love Me Do' was recorded.

1962

Despite McCartney's serious look in the previous portrait, the performer had a lot of fun with fellow bandmates during the early sixties. Here we see Paul with the band while on tour in Hamburg, Germany.

1963

1964

Paul in the iconic black suit worn by the Beatles during the beginning of their career.

With Ed Sullivan

Paul and fellow band members teach Ed Sullivan a little bit of music during a rehearsal for the 'Ed Sullivan Show' in 1964.

1965

In 1965 the Beatles were awarded the "Member of the Order of the British Empire" medals in London, England. The Queen presented the band with the medals at Buckingham Palace.

1967

Toward the end of the 1960s, the entire band went for a different look. They abandoned the black suits and wore scarves, sunglasses, sideburns and mustaches.

1969

Linda Eastman and Paul McCartney married in 1969 after having met at a Georgie Fame concert in 1967. Not long after Linda and Paul married, their daughter Mary was born. Paul also adopted Linda's daughter Heather (1963).

1970

By the end of the 1960s, all the Beatles were busy with solo projects or family. 'Let it Be' would be the last album they released as a band.

1971: Stella is born

Despite being busy with solo albums and creating the new band 'Wings,' Linda and Paul still found time to grow their family. In 1971, Stella was born. This photo is from a few years later, when she was already a toddler.

1972

The McCartney family toured through Europe with their band Wings on a converted bus. Here the couple is pictured in France in the summer of '72.

1973

In the 70s, Linda and Paul went for a big change in style and fully embraced the mullet. Here we see Paul rocking that 70s look. In March of 1973, his band Wings was doing fantastic. Wings achieved their first number-one single in the US with 'My Love."

1974: Brothers

1976

1980

This picture of Paul and Linda on holiday in Saint-Tropez, France, is just great. Although we haven't been able to find the exact year it was taken, perhaps the eleven fingers the couple is holding up is a clue? Our best guess is that it is from 1980, and the pair were celebrating eleven years of marriage.

1982

1983

The Beatles are credited with the creation of pop music. So it is pretty cool to see Paul McCartney with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Do you remember which song they sang together?

Say, say, say...

Things would turn a bit sour between the two when Michael Jackson overbid Paul McCartney in 1985 at the auction of the Beatles' own song catalogue. He hadn't told McCartney about his plans, even though the Beatle had confided in him about the coming of the auction.

1985

1989

A portrait of Paul and Linda in the mid to late 80s. As usual the couple kept up with the current style trends.

A stable relationship

They were a very stable, long-term couple. It would end when Linda got cancer and passed away in 1998 at the age of 56.

1996

Paul with The Queen in 1996. Later in March 1997, Paul McCartney received Knighthood at an Investiture ceremony conducted by The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

1999

2002: remarried

McCartney got remarried in 2002. His wife was the model and activist Heather Mills, about 25 years his junior. The couple had a daughter, Beatrice Milly, in 2003. They separated in 2006.

2005

Paul performed during the Super Bowl XXXIX halftime show at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2005.

2011: Nancy Shevell

Paul McCartney has married three times. His third and current wife is Nancy Shevell, a New York businesswoman (18 years younger than the music legend). They have been together for over ten years.

2016

Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney reunited to attend the World premiere of "The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years" at Odeon Leicester Square in London, England.

2018

He's still got it! Paul has never stopped performing and rocking out! Here Paul was performing in Scotland.

2019

Paul McCartney has written several children's books over the years. Here he read "Hey Grandude!" at a book signing in London.

2021

Paul is also active on Instagram. This photo was posted in June of 2021, of the singer with daughters Mary and Stella. The trio is promoting a new cookbook, 'Linda's Family Kitchen.'
