Photos: stunning places to visit in China
Tai Lake is a spectacle. The endless Sakura trees and synergy between these natural landscapes and man-made additions create these incredible images. Large areas of Sakura trees are in full bloom by the lake each March.
Zhangjiajie is famous for the pillar-like rock formations like these. One of the most iconic Chinese traditional landscapes, it was the site that inspired the film franchise, 'Avatar'.
This national park is so eye-catching that we had to include four parts of it in our list. This part of the park shows an aerial view of tourists walking on the 100-meter-long and 1.6-meter-wide glass sky walk clung the cliff of Tianmen Mountain in the Hunan Province of China.
Tourists can also visit the glass-bottom bridge at Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon's glass-bottomed bridge stretches 430 meters long and 6 meters wide, hovering over a 300-meter-deep valley between two cliffs in the canyon area. The "world's highest and longest" glass-bottomed bridge has already set world records for its architecture and construction.
These are the Bailong elevators in Zhangjiajie, China's Hunan province. The world's highest outdoor lift whisks brave tourists to more than 300 metres (1,000 feet) up the cliff face. The sight of it inside and out is completely other-worldly.
Luyang Lake: floating in a painting... Tourists can ride a boat among trees at Luyang Lake wetland park in Yangzhou in China's eastern Jiangsu province. The dawn redwood forest appears to float and is covered with a vibrant green duckweed.
A Chinese tourist attraction in mountainous northwest Hunan. It looks like a fairytale - and is just as tricky to achieve! The only way for tourists to get there is an hour and a half bus from nearby Zhangjiajie. No trains and certainly no air travel to this secret spot.
Another beautiful spot in China. The blooming cherry blossoms at East Lake Cherry Garden in Wuhan, China look like something come out of a picture book.
See this view of houses, mostly for tourist accommodation, in Wangxian Valley in central China's Jiangxi province. We get 'Lord of the Rings' vibes...
Floating above the clouds and a real triumph in engineering. This Taoist architecture on the top of Laojun Mountain is every inch divine.
Xiangong Hill is in Yang Shuo, Guangxi and this photo shows the viewpoint of the Li River and the excellent karst mountain range view. UNESCO describe the stone forests of Shilin as 'considered superlative natural phenomena and a world reference'.
The Stone Forest area was a shallow sea some 270 million years ago. Stuff of legends? It is said the forest is the birthplace of Ashima (阿诗玛), a beautiful girl who was forbidden to marry her chosen suitor and instead turned into a stone in the forest that still bears her name.
Don't slip! It would take a certain type of person to visit this site in Datong, China. Incredible how it hasn't been affected by erosion.
You can visit these colorful landscapes by bus to viewing platforms created just to take in the supernatural sight. The rocks were created by sandstone and minerals being layered atop each other over the years; exposed slanting rock layers have different colors, textures, shapes, sizes, and patterns.
Red Beach is created by clusters of suaeda salsain Yingkou, Liaoning Province of China. Could it be that the Earth is bleeding? It certainly looks like it is.
Reeds, trees, and the iconic dragon gate landscape at Hongze Lake Wetland's scenic spot are here looming in the fog. Mystical, magical, and moving.
