Prince Harry: a delve into Netflix's new Polo series
We all know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been generating ideas for Netflix aside from their tell-all documentary about, well, themselves. Earlier this year, Netflix announced the theme for Harry's next venture and now we have seen the trailer and have a confirmed release date...
Harry and Meghan were seen on set in April for Harry’s up-and-coming Netflix production that takes a look at the elite world of polo. Now we have seen the trailer and know this is a five part mini docuseries. What else do we now know about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s next releases?
The project’s general contents are clear - it is about the sport. The show is titled 'POLO', as per the release statement, it will "provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo."
In the trailer, we hear “Polo is not just a sport... Polo is a lifestyle. We eat, we breathe, we sleep polo.” The VoiceOver explains how the sport it addictive and is mainly so because of the adrenaline rush you get whilst playing.

“Imagine going on a horse at 35 miles an hour as someone is coming at you full speed. It’s the adrenaline that goes through your body," the trailer tells the audience.

It seems the Duke created this project with his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as PEOPLE pairs the names talking about the production. Also on board is showrunner Miloš Balać, an Emmy award-winning filmmaker, writer and photographer focused on stories at the intersection of sports, pop culture, politics and social justice, as his website states.
In fact, the show is produced by none other than Archewell Productions, Harry & Meghan's production company, as per People. The two both acted as Executive producers on the show.

The statement about the new Netflix show states it will "pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level."
Harry and Meghan's own website, Sussex dot com, reports that the polo show was "shot primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida at The USPA National Polo Center."
And that is where Harry and Meghan were seen on set - Wellington, Florida. On 13th April 2024, the 39-year-old Prince was in the Sunshine State at the National Polo Centre. He was there with a film crew capturing footage for the upcoming show.

Harry filmed a US Open quarterfinal match in fitting monotone colours, blending in - but was also in attendance a day previously with his wife (in a stunning halter-neck dress). Their arrival sparked a buzz and interest not only in Florida, but around the world.
Meghan’s good friend, Serena Williams was also in attendance. Harry took part in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at the Grand Champions Polo Club.
Although there may be some appearances in the show from the Prince himself, these have currently been described as ‘cameos’ by PEOPLE, and he is not penned to be the star of the show. It is currently unclear as to how much Prince Harry will be the other side of the camera in this Netflix instalment.
People confirms those in the trailer as Nacho Figueras, a renowned polo player from Argentina and also a longtime friend of Prince Harry. Adolfo Cambiaso of Team Valiente, who is described by Netflix as “widely regarded as one of the greatest polo players of all time.” Finally, newcomer to the sport, Louis Devaleix of Team La Fe.

Polo has been around in the royal family for years, being dubbed ‘the sport of Kings’ because of its association with royalty throughout history. It is one of the most prestigious sports in the world. dating back over 2000 years.
The late Prince Philip played the sport, as did Prince Charles and Prince William, all who are skilled athletes who frequently participate in high-profile exhibition matches to raise money for charity, The Telegraph confirms. The photo shows Prince William and Prince Harry playing during The King Power Royal Charity Polo Day at Billingbear Polo Club in 2019 in England.
Fellow polo player to Prince Harry, Nacho Figueras, speaks highly of Harry's association and promotion of the sport. He told KCLU, "My polo team has a platform where we use the sport and the platform to raise awareness for charities. Harry's going to be a part of this team.”
He said Prince Harry is an "avid polo enthusiast," and that they are focusing on the team local to Harry's new home in the States. "Him and I wanted this team to be very local and to pay tribute to Southern California because of him moving here and paying tribute to his new home," Town & Country quotes Figueras.
The Netflix polo show is one half of the two new series that the couple are releasing for Netflix, the other seems to still be in early stages. The one in question is set to be a cooking/lifestyle/gardening show, hosted by Meghan.
