Beyond the screen

Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry were more than co-workers; they were friends for decades. Their chemistry on "Beverly Hills, 90210" transcended the screen.

'Beverly Hills, 90210'

In the 1990s, they played lovers Brenda and Dylan on "Beverly Hills, 90210". Together they created an iconic couple that lives on in the hearts of fans.

Luke Perry's death

Perry passed away in March 2019 at the age of 52 after suffering a stroke, leaving a huge void in Doherty's life.

Publicly mourning

Doherty remembers the pain all too well. She was moved to recall Perry's death at a panel at MegaCon Orlando in February. His loss was devastating for her, according to People magazine.

A man with a heart of gold

In a 2019 interview, Doherty described Perry as a "smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love."

A special reunion

According to the Daily Mail, before Perry's death, they met for lunch together. "I walked in and there he was, smiling, with his dog Penny and their bed under the booth, as happy as could be. I’ll never forget – and miss – Luke looking at me with that smile and saying… ‘Shan.'."

Plans for working together

The two were planning to work together again on something special and meaningful for their fans. According to People, Perry tried numerous times to get the Riverdale team to cast her in the series.

They were unable to work together

After Perry's death, Doherty made a cameo on the show and shared that she was "deeply honoured to pay tribute to him."

Her fight against cancer

Doherty had been battling cancer since 2015. Although her cancer was in remission in 2017, it returned in 2020 at an advanced stage.

Tribute by Gabrielle Carteris

Moments after Doherty's death was announced, Gabrielle Carteris - who played Andrea Zuckerman on Beverly Hills, 90210 - wrote: "I know Luke is there with open arms to love you," in her tribute to Doherty.

The legacy of their friendship

Although both have departed, the friendship and love that Doherty and Perry shared continues to inspire their fans and colleagues.
